Cross-wound Spools
Cross-winding spools enable the production of extremely long narrow tapes – ideal for automated processing operations. Krückemeyer manufactures cross-winding spools with run lengths of up to approximately 30 km, tailored to the customer's application and production line.

| Standard tape widths | 2-25 mm |
| Maximum cut width | 30 mm (material dependent) |
| Tape lengths | up to approx. 30,000 m (material dependent) |
| Width tolerance | +/- 0.2 mm |
| Length tolerance | +/-10 m |
Any material that can be cut and wound into rolls can be individually cut to narrow tape widths as roll stock according to your specifications. Depending on the material, cutting widths from 2 mm are achievable. Please note: The cross-winding technique is material-dependent and can only be used up to a maximum 30 mm tape cut width.

Beyond the materials named above, in principle any material that can be cut and wound can be processed into a cross-wound roll – regardless of whether it is self-adhesive or non-adhesive.
| Classic cross-wound reels | Individual dimensions & tape dimensions |
| Conical cross-wound reels | Symmetrically wound materials (optional with edge discs) |
| Bi-conical cross-wound reels | Asymmetrically wound materials |
| Disc rollers | Machine adhesive tapes simply wound with longer run lengths |
Cross-wound reels can, in principle, be tailored to your processes based on winding material, dimensions and winding technique, and manufactured to meet your specifications.
Häufige Fragen zu Kreuzspulen
Cross-wound spools (also cross-wound reels) mean that a narrow adhesive, foam, or film tape is wound crosswise (transversely). This allows very long run lengths (several thousand meters) per spool – significantly more than with classic tape rolls. Cross-wound spools are especially advantageous when long run times with as few roll changes as possible are desired in automated production lines.
Basically all materials that can be cut and wound, adhesive or non-adhesive, can be processed as cross-wound. However, the materials must be available as roll stock (jumbo rolls).
- Adhesive tapes (single- / double-sided, transfer tapes)
- Technical films (especially protective films)
- Foams
Narrow tapes for cross-wound spools are normally cut to a width in the range of approximately 2 mm to 9 mm. Depending on the material, cutting tolerances of +/- 0.2 mm are realistic. Otherwise, the corresponding cutting tolerances are always individually dependent on material, tape width, core, winding pattern, and the desired running length or spool geometry.
Cross-wound spools are manufactured by us in your requested dimensions. Depending on the material and dimensions you require, the variants can be flexibly tailored to your application.
The main cost drivers for cross-wound reels are:
- Material costs and batch size
- Tape width (cut width) and desired running length per spool (several thousand meters are possible)
- Spool specification - customization including processing aids
- Quality and process requirements for consistently reproducible serial qualities
To ensure a fast and accurate quote, the following information is particularly helpful:
- Details of the requested material
- Notes regarding application & production line
- Tape dimensions in cut width & roll length
- Spool dimensions - winding width & maximum outer diameter
- Core size (hub) in inches
- Preferred unwind direction
- Annual demand + call-off quantities
This mainly depends on whether the material is available and how specific the spool specification (core, winding pattern, take-off) is. We can already manufacture cross-wound spools from a single sample roll.
